Rebecca Wear is a freelance director, dramaturg, and educator currently based in Southern California (previously New York).

Rebecca makes work about the things we don't know how to talk about; she gravitates towards culturally specific pieces that distill big ideas about identity and politics into compelling interpersonal relationships.

To mine this complexity, she often collaborates with musicians and composers, choreographers and dancers, and surrounding/repurposed geography.

Rebecca is a recipient of a Critical Refugees Studies grant in collaboration with playwright Lisa Dring, Middlebury Language School Davis Fellowship for Peace, a member of the The National Director's Fellowship 5th cohort, and a resident director at HERO Theatre.

In addition to her freelance directing work, Rebecca is a PhD candidate at UC Santa Barbara and a recipient of UCSB's Chancellor Fellowship. She has previously studied in Taiwan, traveled with a Communist theatre troupe in India, lived and trained in Thai massage in a hippie commune, and continues to search for an adoptable hypoallergenic pup...so let her know if you have any leads!
