Rebecca Wear is a freelance director, dramaturg, and educator currently based in California (previously New York).

Rebecca makes work about the things we don't know how to talk about; she gravitates towards culturally specific pieces that examine how ideas, capital, and identities move across borders, time, and language.

To mine this complexity, she often collaborates with musicians and composers, choreographers and dancers, and surrounding/repurposed geography.

Rebecca is a resident director at HERO Theatre and was a member of the The National Director's Fellowship 5th cohort. Her creative collaborations have been supported by the UC Critical Refugees Studies Collective.

Previously, she's studied in Taiwan, traveled with a Communist street theatre troupe in India, and trained in Thai massage in a hippie commune. She also holds a PhD from UC Santa Barbara.
